About the Artist

Natalia Rose is a Canadian self-taught artist whose work is inspired by nature, landscapes, light, and the emotional connection between her subject matter and the human experience.

Through painting and photography, she aims to create expressive artworks that capture and hold attention while inviting reflection and thought.

“Art makes me feel complete; it’s my everything! When I paint, it’s like I am meditating: I am completely zoomed out and in-the-moment, and this is therapy. It helps me live through all of the negativity of this world, helps me believe that the world is still a beautiful place; it’s full of light, full of wonder… and I want my art to be an expression of how I experience this world, how I feel it, how I see it.”

Natalia’s style in art is realism, sometimes with minor elements of abstraction.
From time to time she also ventures into fully abstract renderings, having fun with colours and textures while creating compelling compositions.

Her favourite mediums in art include oils and watercolours.

“I don’t think I can live without either one for too long. When I am into Oils, I start missing watercolours and switch. Then after working with watercolours for some time, I start missing oils, and switch again, and this is a never-ending ebb and flow for me – from one to the other and back again.”

On the Easel

Freshly finished, this beautiful oil painting of itoh peonies was done in anticipation of spring, which we can already feel in the air. It’s February, still middle of winter, but the sun is bright, and we are in the midst of a meltdown right now with temperatures above zero during the day. Needless to say, the snow is melting, and the air smells of spring!

These flowers were painted from a reference photo I took last summer while driving on Airport Road in Mono, Ontario. Bright coloured flowers on the side of the road near someone’s property gate caught my eye, and so I pulled over to take some photos.

Like humans, flowers open up and bloom when the environment is benign and they feel safe and cared of. When the conditions are adverse, they wilt away and die.

This painting is titled “Breathe Me In”
